The subjects for this blog will be related to local, regional and, on occasion, state politics. It is NOT associated with any political party or special interest group. It is my hope that all sides will boldly venture into the arena to do battle on behalf of their candidate or to defend a position. As is the case in the rough and tumble world of politics rules will be kept to a minimum. However, keep the comments at least PG rated. If you resort to name calling you are admitting defeat.

Elections Impact the Region

The outcome of the upcoming Board of Supervisors elections in Spotsylvania and Stafford will have an impact on the region as a whole. Those elected will determine whether we will work together as a region or not. Whether they like it or not those elected will have a say in how scare transportation dollars are spent in the region. They will also be making land use decisions which will affect their neighboring jurisdictions. So, yes I am again sticking my nose into politics outside the city limits.

So what is the next step? To get things rolling I have posted the campaign websites that are now available and will add others if and when they go up. I'm currently going through the websites and have jotted down a few notes which I will post in the next few days. I will continue to check in on these sites as well as on campaign events and news stories and provide a little color commentary as the campaigns move forward.

Also, forums like this provide an opportunity for candidates to break out of the sound bite restrictions that they will encounter with the press. While some may be content with a few one liners (check out http://questeverything.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html) others may wish to provide more detail regarding their positions. I will offer all the candidates the opportunity to post any position papers or other info they feel is pertinent to the election. This will also provide an opportunity for readers, as well as the candidates, to respond by way of comments and or questions to those posts.

I probably will also submit some questions to the candidates on regional issues and will post what responses I get. It is my hope that we can generate a spirited and more in-depth debate on the issues. Let the games begin!
